The Kilobyte Couture book is released!

Hooray!!!

Hooooooray! After two long years of development the Kilobyte Couture book has finally been released and you can find it in your very own local bookstore or Amazon today! The book features 25 how-to projects on turning regular resistors and capacitors into stylish jewelry and accessories for you and your friends.

It was also neat to learn that Kilobyte Couture was recently featured in the May issue of  Beadstyle Magazine (on page 16). It’s really cool because the Kilobyte Couture book is featured right next to the Handmade Nation book which one of my former college professors Kate Bingaman-Burt illustrated.

You should check them both out! Wheeeee!

Update!

We have less than 2 months until the book launch and things are beginning to heat up over here! My publicity team is hard at work at Watson-Guptill. I am going to be featured in several magazines and online blogs. More information to come when I get it! Also I am getting super fun postcards printed to promote the book! Expect to see them around Austin

Time really flies doesn’t it…

Downtown Austin at night

Downtown Austin at night

I have lived in Austin already for two months. It really just seems like I have lived here for only a week or so. I have absolutely loved living here and I feel like I am really starting to get comfortable here in the city. I am developing favorite places, and favorite things! The people of Austin are some of the nicest people, but also some of the worst drivers. I was probably driving like a crazy lady when I went back home to Mississippi, because I was so used to people driving crazy around me!

In other news I have just ordered a big batch of supplies for our fall line! Hooray. You can expect the new pieces to debut sometime in the next few weeks!

Hooray! We have a cover!

The Kilobyte Couture Cover

I am very proud to unveil the cover for our book coming out this Spring with Watson-Guptill Publications/Random House. Yippee! I think the Random House art department did a great job with the cover and especially with the PCB board lace detail! It’s my favorite part! The book will feature 25 how-to geek chic jewelry projects as well as some interesting facts nerds and geek style.

Exploring SoCo

Things in Austin have been going just swell, and have really settled down since I have found a little temporary job. I have really loved exploring the city, especially the South Congress area. It’s so exciting to know that I can find great handmade stuff in my own town! South Congress has a great event called First Thursday in which all the businesses stay open late on the first Thursday of every month. I attended this past First Thursday, and really enjoyed the variety of shops and the numerous street vendors that were showing their wares. I think that Kilobyte Couture will try to participate in upcoming First Thursdays, as soon as I can get a good show display put together.

Here’s some of the places I’ve visited:

Howdy Austin!!

Kilobyte Couture HQ has relocated to beautiful Austin, Texas! I am super excited about the move, and super excited for what this means for Kilobyte Couture. Hopefully Kilobyte Couture jewelry will be sold in a few local stores, and represented at local craft shows (and maybe even Makers Fair!). I am gearing up for a huge redesign of the Kilobyte Couture website, as well as some of the branding, in an effort to prepare for the Kilobyte Couture book release next spring! I’ll keep you posted!

Giant Dwarf

Giant Dwarf Through flickr browsing I came across a neat shop called Giant Dwarf, which sells cute cloches and stylish large bags mainly. I really fell in love with her Snappy Satchel Bags that can house a couple magazines, a good amount of stuff, custom pockets for small items, and even a D-ring for your keys. The bags are made out of upcycled clothing and/or vintage fabrics. I snagged the bag above, and am trying to wait patiently for its arrival :).

Whew.

Hi friends. I know it’s been a while! I have been concentrating super hard on book revisions and graduating from university! Since I am a graphic design emphasis, I need to revamp my whole portfolio and prepare for interviews and such. I am moving to Austin, Texas after graduation, and I am super excited about it.
